The 2017 summer solstice marked Make Music Day’s fourth celebration in Boston. Make Music Boston featured live, free performances all across the city of Boston on June 21st, featuring musicians of all stripes in venues including the Boston Common, the Lawn on D, the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Museum of Fine Arts, CityPOP Egleston, Downtown Crossing, and Porter Square. In our first four years, the festival grew from 100 to 450 artists and ensembles performing music of all genres throughout the day. We’ve showcased Too Many Trombones, an ensemble of 30 trombonists premiering music composed by Norman Bolter, created a 100 person soundscape using the music of John Cage, and teamed with Girls Rock Boston for a mass guitar jam session.
